However, this is not where you can access the Summary from. Instead, near the top left where the drop-down menu is to select from Music, Movies, etc you will now see on the right of it a device icon. Click on that to view the Summary for the connected device.

Once you've got the Summary up as per above you will see a Backups section in the centre of the screen. It is from there you can enable the encrypt backup option.

I went to the regular iTunes Help menu, opened the Help file, and it said to "click on the iPhone icon" in the left side tool bar. I did, and the Summary Page opened and have not had any more problems since. Don't know if this simple fix works for everyone, but sure worked for me!

It synched normally, but no Summary Page. That's when I found the extra step not previously required to click on the iPhone icon, then the Summary Page appeared.
