Which covenant should i join

To be able to speak to her and join the Covenant, you'll have to have the Old Witch's Ring equipped. The Old Witch's Ring itself can be chosen as a gift at the beginning of the game, or it can be obtained by having Hawk Girl convert a Sunlight Maggot into the ring.

Once equipped, return to Anor Londo. You must set the rotating bridge to its lowest setting to gain access to the Darkmoon Tomb. Kneel at the prayer mat you find there and you can join the Covenant. Don't go through the white light gate, or you'll engage Dark Sun Gwnydolin in a boss fight and the Covenant will be lost forever. Also receive the Darkmoon Blade Covenant Ring.

Items required to level Covenant: Souvenir of Reprisal gained from invading and killing players in Book of the Guilty. You must speak with Darkstalker Kaathe in the Abyss. To find him, you must defeat the Four Kings either before obtaining the Lordvessel, or before it is placed at the Firelink Altar. Join: Receive the Dark Hand fist weapon.

Darkstalker Kaathe will also sell Cracked Red Eye orbs for 3, souls. Talk to Alvina of the Darkroot, the large cat found lounging in the window of the building that leads to the path of Great Grey Wolf Sif in Darkroot Garden. Passive: Can be summoned to help protect against intruders in the forest while the Cat Covenant Ring is equipped. Joining this Covenant allows you to enter a pact with Gravelord Nito, one of the Lord demons.

First, you must have an Eye of Death in your inventory. You can buy one from Patches in the Tomb of the Giants for 3, souls, or you can find them in the Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants. When it comes to Soulbinds Venthyr has some solid options but nothing exceptional, and is one of the areas it loses ground to Kyrian due to having access to Hammer of Genesis , a strong option to empower your Doom Winds opening.

The additional healing from the second activation however may save it as an extra group cooldown, but given that Venthyr can just adjust their uses it's unlikely to make it preferrable. Vesper Totem with the flat damage and healing bump in 9. For most raid content, the main benefit of Kyrian's Scouring Tithe is that it counts as a DoT to increase your Malefic Rapture 's damage, in addition to just being an extra DoT for a class that specializes in DoTs.

Night Fae is almost equally as strong as Kyrian, with the added benefit of a strong movement ability in Soulshape. In addition to this, Soul Rot is way easier to use functionally than Scouring Tithe , as it's essentially just a cooldown you have to hit every minute, instead of constantly assessing which benefit you want to gain from casting it.

Despite the adjustment to Venthyr's ability, Impending Catastrophe , Night Fae and Necrolord are still going to be your primary options for raid. Typically most players will be continuing with Night Fae due to the flexibility it provides to play the other specs. Nothing has changed for Destruction in 9.

Necrolord has been buffed, but due to the difference in soulbinds and because of Soulshape s utility Night Fae still looks to be the strongest. That being said, this does bring both Necrolord and Venthyr much more into play. Specifically Necrolord is a strong option for raids now.

The big downside of choosing Necrolord is limiting yourself from then playing Affliction, which looks to be the strongest spec in 9. Condemn backed by Massacre replaces a great deal of the rotation, simplifying it, but also adding a great deal of increased damage and defensive value from the built-in damage reduction. Although it has a bit of a low period in between Execute phases, the damage at the beginning and end of the encounter makes it worth while, and Venthyr offers strong Soulbind options for single and multitarget content.

Door of Shadows is somewhat lackluster, as Warriors already have a lot of mobility. When it's useful, it's very useful, but those times tend to be few and far between in raid where the entire raid often needs to move rather than just one person. Generally speaking, any of the others will be better, but that is hardly the primary consideration when choosing Covenants. Condemn remains strong in multitarget due to its raw damage output, but loses value in AoE heavy content due to being limited to a single target outside of Sweeping Strikes.

On the other hand, Night Fae's Ancient Aftershock provides the highest multitarget burst and also a good deal of control due to the repeat knockdown - at least against targets susceptible to it. It does have some room for failure however, as the ground target effect can be misplaced or enemies can move out of it, making the Kyrian Spear of Bastion a weaker albeit easier to use alternative. On the other hand, the Kyrian Phial of Serenity is far more widely useful, and remains the best signature ability across all covenants.

Condemn is an extremely versatile single target and AoE attack which helps jumpstart the early rotation due to the increased rage generation. The defensive aspect is not quite as useful since Fury cannot spam the ability, but it's a nice supplement to Bloodthirst healing when considering the amount of raid encounters which incorporate rot damage G'huun and Queen Azshara both come to mind as recent examples.

On the other hand, Night Fae's is situational at best due to Warrior's high mobility the inability to attack while shifted, making it a very good pick for a handful of circumstances but often left forgotten on your bars. Condemn remains a useful option due to Fury's ability to innately cleave single target attacks with Whirlwind however Night Fae's Ancient Aftershock provides the highest multitarget burst and also a good deal of control due to the repeat knockdown - at least against targets susceptible to it.

Comment by jax It seems you cant pick covenant until release day with all the changes still happening. But ill go for most fun covenant barrack and utility for pve in the end. Comment by Raynre Whelp, blueberries it is. Comment by ShirouChan I "like" where this is going. Comment by orca Kyrian really for a destro warlock..

I love the necrolords Comment by Frostcut How is venthry good for ret someone pls explain it coz i dont see any benefit from a 4 min cd. Comment by Wackq Might wanna update blood DK raiding since the only reason is the bleed cleanse from Phial which has been removed!

Comment by Lyuben Really not sure what to go for on my Balance Druid. I think I like them all except Venthyr tbh. Comment by avgjoegeek Blizz really screwed the pooch on this. They have dug themselves into a hole there is no way to get out of.

The Anima or whatever its called grind would still be there. You'd still have the same mechanics in place if you want to switch Covenants. This way people I dunno? You could maybe pick a Covenant that better depicts their in game character? For example: I'm an Undead Rogue. Or the Night Fae? It makes no sense for me to run around with a set of Faerie wings as I go around the countryside trying to gank all the things. No matter how much time they spend on this Blizz is not going to be able to balance the Covenants out enough so classes could choose what they want and be able to perform the way the system is currently.

Comment by Spotnick They don't want to have a best covenant for each spec, so a guide like this is probably going to mean they will do changes again before release to make sure there is no winner. Comment by ThaDuder Not surprising.

The Kyrian soulbind abilities are so much easier to get value out of pretty much all the time and in any content. With Necrolord you get the benefits after a kill, or after 10 crits, or after standing still like a doof for so many seconds, etc, etc. Comment by decree72 And still i need each of the 4 covenants anyway, so some of my toons have to go the not best route :.

Comment by Kurtosis Can someone explain the Disc priest one a little more? Comment by pathofcloud I love how every spec has a thought-out thorough explanation and then Rogues get the same comment copy and pasted 3 times ending with this, "In the grand scheme of things, Covenant choice does not matter too much from a raw DPS perspective.

Whats weird is, usually he does Assassinations right at least, while his guide for Sub and Outlaw are almost entirely trash and amount to reading the abilities. In case you don't believe me, feel free to look at Outlaws prepatch azerite trait suggestions, where he lists of the 6 traits that seem good in no particular order and says essentially, "take this one that's mostly for aoe but like Outlaw is aoe so don't bother finding something else for ST, why would you do ST?

Which is how the BiS trinket is decided too, until it's proven definitively not to be, course you can expect to not see it updated half the time anyways. I mean, 2 haste trinkets Maybe, just maybe, its time to not let 1 guy write guides for 3 specs He's the only one by the way, most have unique writers and 2 or 3 others cap out at 2 , especially when its clear he doesn't really care about 2 of the specs.

Or do the nova and targeted damage differ? Comment by zadnysrani Can someone explain why the resto druid part mentions Convoke the Spirits casting Flourish "on the rare occasion" when it's not in the list of spells Convoke the Spirits can cast? Comment by blissfire I really appreciate this for classes I don't main - if I'm debating which covenant to go with, and I don't particularly care either way, I can go with the default best choice for output.

I think I might end up doing that for half or more of my characters. The ones I play a lot will still be going with the covenants I like the best for them, regardless of output. Comment by Morwo does this guide get updated? Cause okay Telling me why one is better than the rest doesn't give any perspective or granularity to where the rest fall.

I'd rather have a ballpark idea of what kind of "performance loss" I'd take, by going say Necrolord on my Paladin, over Kyrian. Also, incoming 9. Comment by saphirond typo on arms comment by archi " Comment by davolorin I'd like to see their data rather than, "just take my word for it.

Neither has Kyrian been buffed, but it was actually nerfed, so why is it stronger now than Venthyr? Comment by Raevynwillow I have been mulling over this for awhile. I didn't raid much in bfa, but again starting fresh I look forward to at least normal, see how it goes. Main issue is I have so many toons.

I originally thought, easy I'll just pick a theme for each toon, aesthetics and lore that each toon can get behind, and forget the abilities. Also, not all gear sets look good for each armor type, some plate sets within a covenant look great, while mail for example looks junk. My paladin is only plate in my 4 toon setup, so he's just going to get Venthyr stuff, but what If I want kyrian stuff?

Hunter seems pretty much fixed on Kyrian, all 3 specs. Resonating shot is just to good. So as a hunter main, I'd take Kyrian. Bastion would welcome my dwarf paladin. If I am taking a different covenant on 4 main toons, this makes it difficult. So this all sucks, that we cant choose covenant we want to aucutally join and hang with, because of how they set this system up. Comment by durf24 15 individual mentions of Pelagos being a main reason why Kyrian is the best choice for the class, despite the nerf to his specific soulbind tree.

This is a clear sign that there's going to be major issues going forward with this system. This was meant to be an expansion about making a choice you can't just undo without repercussions but all data indicates that the best choice to make is Kyrian and Pelagos specifically in many cases.

I like the abilities in it I know things are still in flux. Comment by datgrl Soulforge Embers is a legendary trait. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how these work but you can get this as a member of any covenant, correct? Isn't it something you learn and apply at the Runecarver? I want to know more about Resonating Arrow's Line of Sight and how that works.

Using it in an environment like Waycrest Manor with all the mobs in the hallways outside rooms seems dangerous. Comment by mark I absolutely love this system. I'm saying this with no sarcasm. Between soulbinds, legendary powers, conduits, scaling, and covenant abilities themselves So I think filthy casuals like myself will just play what we want, because worrying about min maxing is just too much of a pain in the ass.

And world first raiders will have a ton more work to do, which will set them further apart from filthy casuals like myself. Personally I was a huge fan of the "haves and have nots" style of play from vanilla. I don't work hard at all to play this game, so I am perfectly happy to see someone who plays 18 hours a day do dps I could never dream of doing. But from what I have seen most classes only have 1 covenant ability that looks terrible.

It's unfortunate the useless abilities come from the necrolords though I think Shadowlands will be the best expac since legion. I am saying this with 0 sarcasm.

Comment by Apothic So now my holy priest needs to choose necrolords Comment by Nagratz All these warlocks running around aligned with the Kyrian Covenant. Comment by Givesnowfox Anyone hating on the covenants? I'm lucky as a resto druid to both have Night Fae for both mythics and raiding but some classes aren't as lucky. So there's gonna be a lot of switching - which is gonna screw a lot of people around. Comment by Innuendo Because this was updated today, there is something I need to mention for Rogues: There is no actual "best" Covenant anymore.

All four are within a percent of each other. For Rogue, choose what you want aesthetically, lore-wise, or whatever. All four are strong and competitive. Comment by slaird I just have bad feelings about how much this is flip flopping and how much it is different for a given spec for a class.

Whatever happened to bring the player not the class, or even the spec, now the covenant. What I really want to know rather than best The ones that do not work.

What do I take if I want to swap from Enhance to Resto as needs be and then run some Elemental when too many melee show up on raid night. Comment by Nite Can we choose "none of the above" and just solo quest - no dungeons, no raids, just quest?

Comment by Rio It's a bit disheartening that we're locked into areas for our covenants that make little to no sense just to take advantage of benefits of that said covenant. I'm particularly annoyed about my Resto Shaman and his choices, he's supposed to be in tune with nature, not in a blood sucker's paradise with nightmarish creatures everywhere.

Comment by Gomrin Exactly what I want from an addon: Spending days reading what to choose to deal damage and the guarantee that it will all change with the next content patch. Comment by SiegaPlays I am missing the "best solo covenant" after tank, heal and dps. I have alts I never play in groups, and it would be nice with a best covenant for survivability and speedy process in solo content. Do these guides apply to the category of player I fall into? Titan Switch Optical.

Optical Mouse Titan Switch. Stellar Wireless. Syndicate, Covenant, or Marauders? All New World Factions. New World Faction Differences: Which one should you choose?

Color of Faction gear Faction gear Company's Quests This is combined with the territory controlled on the map that the Faction's can wage war over, and if you're just loading up into a server for the first time, it may be a good idea to go with the one that has the most land at the moment.
